May Day protests are here

The CPC has been in contact with the Seattle Police Command Staff about their plans to respond to protests during May Day this year. SPD has been working to have clear communication with the groups they know will be protesting today.

The CPC also reiterated its recommendation that SPD stop using blast balls, small explosive devices used by the police for crowd control. In a letter to the department in 2016, we said "Until such time as blast balls’ propensity for causing injury (including specific evidence from the past two years in Seattle), and their appropriate use given that risk, have been publicly weighed, we ask that SPD suspend their use."
